Thinking about the feet

Last night was the Holy Thursday Mass at church and 12 of us went up to have our feet washed by the priest, re-enacting Jesus’ actions at the Last Supper. It was a moving ceremony, and the priest talked in the homily about how it should remind us of the importance of living a life of service.

The night had an added, bizarre and sad twist. A guy in our RCIA class has been having some health problems. He’s a younger guy but he’d been having terrible foot problems. They finally figured out that he had a pretty significant vascular problem in his lower legs (a doctor thought outside the box and used a fetal heart monitor on his feet to figure out he wasn’t getting proper blood flow). They performed surgery yesterday and got his veins cleared out in his lower leg, but discovered the problems in his feet are far more serious. He faces amputation of both feet.

We¬†found out about that just before the service started. It really added an entirely different dimension to the night, pondering the imponderable. We’re all praying for Dennis, hoping for the best out of a sad situation.

I didn’t know you were taking RCIA classes. When are you confirmed into the church?

Wish we had known, we could have made plans to attend. The girls are really interested in Easter Vigil mass. Good Luck.
